Great treadmill with the small screen we want
1 of 1 found this helpful This treadmill is a great old-school value. My wife and I do not want a giant video monitor as the centerpiece of a treadmill. A small screen as a control panel is just right. The shipping company delivered it to our living room, and I thought I'd be able to take it to the basement by myself, piece by piece, and assemble it there. I didn't realize that the main body is all welded and a single piece. That's great! Much stronger; but I had to get help moving it down there. The assembly instructions are pretty good; a couple of places could use more detail and/or helpful hints. Getting the crossbar for the panel to click into place took a little fussing around. But once in place, it is all very, very solid.
I was extremely angry, though, at NordicTrack's heavy-handed LIES that the machine would not work unless you sign up for a membership with the online iFit service. Free for 30 days, but you have to give them your credit card number and cell phone number to get the instructions on how to activate the treadmill!!! As an electronics engineer, I have designed control panels like this. I knew it had to be marketing B.S. and there would be a way to supersede the sign-up requirement. All you have to do is hold the "iFit" button on the control panel for 15 seconds or so (and first be sure the magnetic "key" is attached to the control panel). Starts right up with that, and it seems to be a one-time requirement.
My wife really likes this treadmill, and I'm very happy that we were able to obtain a brand-new unit, even though NordicTrack themselves are not selling this model any more.

Not sure about this...
I was surprised when I found that it was shipping from Caracas, Venezuela. It all seemed properly packaged and manufactured, but it just didn't work well or last long. I ordered a fer-real replacement directly from Oster and it's been working fine for several years now.

New life for older monitors with DVI-D
Older computer monitors with DVI-D interface can be directly connected to HDMI with a simple cross-over adapter. The DVI-D signals are identical to HDMI (but without the audio). This brought new life to several older monitors that I have. With this adapter, I was able to just connect up an HDMI cable from my Windows 10 computer and it immediately started working. No problems whatsoever.
The size of the adapter is not a problem for me (or most people, IMHO). When used at the _monitor_ it's out of the way on the back of the monitor, normally pointing down. Not many older computers with a real DVI-D interface are around any more, but there are still working monitors that can use this adapter.
P.S. Stick with DVI-D, not DVI-I. You don't need the extra pins for the old analog VGA signals -- and your monitor might not even have holes for those pins. You'd end up unable to use a DVI-I connector unless you broke off 4 pins and trimmed the large ground pin/plate.
