A very good game, but a couple setbacks...
3 of 3 found this helpful This review of Driver: Parallel Lines, is coming straight from a hardcore fan of the driver series, so, here you go....

DPL, is overall a good game, is made up of 6 overall key elements, below, are these elements, along with a discription to help you:
-The City (8/10 ) and the Story (6/10), : The most awesome part about this game is that this game is based on a semi-accurate map of New York City, they have a couple of good landmarks, nothing to get to excited about, but still enough to satisfy anyone; It features Manhatten, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, ect, and also has parts of New Jersey in it! This game also has a very unique thing in it: 2 eras, The game's story starts off in the 1978, ahh yes, muscle cars, disco, and crime, you start off as a young 17 year old named TK or "the Kid" who has the best driving skills in the whole city, you get hired as a getaway driver for other criminals, you get set up though, and wind up in jail- for 28 years, you come back to New york City in present day time: 2006, the games new modern feeling depicts New York City pretty well.
-Cars (8/10): You cant have a game called "driver" without cars, the cars in this game are pretty good, They have all of your typical vehicles, in both eras: Sedans, Coupes, Sports cars, exotic vehicles, busses, Commercial vehicles, Police cars, and of course, TAXIS! Car damage is very unique , and very good, personally i havent seen a game that had better car damage outside of the driver series.
-Graphics (8/10): Well, graphics a pretty good, as said before, car damage is great, every now and then you'll see a couple drawback distances and pop ups but that doesnt appear often.
-Characters: The characters form the game are pretty cool, most of them appear in both eras, nothing much to say about them, except that they all play major rolls except about 2 or 3 of them.
-Gameplay (7/10) In this game it had an open mission structure, like GTA, which means the game had no main menu,you start off and stay in "free roam" mode until you decide to driver to an area where a mission is being offered to complete. the game is kind of short, but it is hard, missions can get very difficult, but about, 80% of them are totally fun. The game also has the same thing all of the other driver games have had- cops!! Cops are what keep these games fun, the cops in the game driver 4 door sedans in both eras of the game (even though they arent the same, of course :D ) and you can drive the police cars and even flash their lights on top. The game also though, has large amounts of shooting with pistols like 9mm's to UZI sub- autos, still, its fun. The HUD is pretty good and the way the game works is pretty awesome, a must-have!!!!
Overall (8/10)- As a strong fan of the driver series (I became hooked when they released the first one back in 1999) I strongly recomend this game to anyone who likes hollywood style car chases, awesome car crashes and jus fun games in general.
