Fun and playable. Needed a sequel because it was that good.
It has good graphics. It is the way games can look good on the game boy even with less graphics the game plays great and looks just like it does on Nintendo. From what I am told the character moves slower but the game looks the same. Definitely needed a sequel and game boy color could have been a great system for a sequel to this game but supply and demand of the gamers probably kept that from happening.

Some minor flaws, but one of better Gameboy Games
This is a fun game. The graphics are good for a gameboy game.

This is a good game but I like FF tactics better
1 of 3 found this helpful I bought Tactics Ogre. Finally after hearing all of the great things about it and reading all of the great reviews about it and how this was one of the best gameboy advance game titles to buy. So I bought it and even online on ebay it is still going for a lot of money. Almost as much as Final Fantasy VI which I chose not to buy because I have played it before. So Tactics Ogre is a really cool game but it is kind of hard. I am not an expert on reviewing these tactics type of RPG games but I just wanted to get one to get my feet wet and the only ones I know of are this one and the Final Fantasy tactics game. The one for playstation I also heard is really good although I have not played it yet.
I think I really like Tactics Ogre and to me the story is pretty cool and that is actually my favorite part of the game. I really like playing this game when it is sort of easier and not so hard as it gets later on. Where the enemies have very high Hit Points and then they can take off a ton of your points making it a war of attrition in which they usually win out on me. *And a lot of times it does feel like they are cheating!
Maybe I am just not that good at this game or don't have the patience to sit down and figure out the strategy. I later bought Final Fantasy Tactics for the Gameboy and I found out that this is the perfect tactics style game for me. I have just more fun playing this one. I have not been stumped yet at a part that seems too difficult it is rather easier than Tactics Ogre. The graphics are about the same as Tactics Ogre, but the music in my opinion is definitely better. I like the characters better in FF tactics, although I have seen negative reviews about it from people who say they are too cutesy and cuddly or whatever. Maybe they are but geez for a portable game that you just take with you wherever you go it doesn't have to be too serious in my opinion. I like Final Fantasy Tactics better than Tactics Ogre overall even though the former hasn't gotten as good of reviews by the critics. The reasons I like it better are its replay value and the characters I like a lot better! You have lizards and rabbits and fun and different looking human characters to choose from, not to mention the monks and wizards and things. Tactics Ogre just has basic human characters, not to say they aren't fun to play with but they don't hold my interest as much. If if you are one of those people who love Chronicles of Narnia then you will know what I mean when I say Final Fantasy Tactics is better. If you are more of a Lord of the Rings person then Tactics Ogre is more a game for you. The story of Tactics Ogre even kind of feels like a lord of the rings plot, which is probably the best thing going for that game.
Yeah I know tactics Ogre started this game genre from what I know, but to me this game is hard and not as fun as Final Fantasy Tactics. And if you are afraid that Final Fantasy Tactics doesn't look graphically as good, it looks at least as good if not better. And the magic spells are more fun to do you don't have to constantly be stumped fighting the same battle, you can choose to fight different missions. The game has a learning curve that is more suited for people like me who don't have the patience to sit down and spend hours getting serious on a game. So that is my take.
