Fisrt console to get FPS's right!
When it came to console First Person Shooters it was hard to find one with good controls. I'd have to say that was mostly due to the controllers of the consoles themselves. But the folks at Rare used the N64 controls to their full advantage for this FPS. The key to good FPS controls is the need of dual analog control on the controller. While the N64 only had one analog stick, they used the directional "c" buttons to control your view and the stick for movement. So how do you aim? First there is an auto-aim that works well. Bur if you want a more specific shot you hold the "R" shoulder button and the stick controls aiming. Goldeneye was the first game to not only get the controls perfect but also the multiplayer for a console FPS. I can't tell you how many countless hours, days, and weeks I spent playing 4-way split-screen with friends. Similar to how nowadays we do LAN-party's for Halo. The only problem most people have with Goldeneye today is the frame rate. I don't personally have a problem, but if you play modern day FPS's and are going to play Goldeneye for the first time be ready to slow down.

One of the best "Vs." games
While it's no "Marvel Vs. Capcom," Capcom Vs. SNK is still a solid 2D fighting game. With 25 characters divided between Street Fighter and King Of Fighters you're bound to find a dream match. Part of what makes this game great is also the little things. The match intros are short but nice and stylish. The backgrounds are well designed and very animated. The interactions between certain characters before the fight, funny. The key however...balanced. This is a well balanced fighter that any SF or KoF fan should check out.

If you have a Genesis you have to own this game!
Vectorman, like Comix Zone, is a great example of what the Sega Genesis was capable of in terms of graphics and sound. You never really saw games like this before, especially on a home console. The controls are spot on making it all the more fun to play and not just look at. Be warned though, this is a hard game. Even on the easiest setting it can frustratingly difficult. But that makes it all the more satisfying when you beat it. If, however, you can't beat it use the code "c, a, left, left, a, c, a, b" and warp to the last level. Get it? Call a cab?
