RISK RACING MOTOCROSS Mountain bike FORK SEAL DOCTOR FIXING TOOL Small 35-45
    Jun 22, 2017
Simple tool, but could be improved.
This is well-packaged (in retail terms), and the inner support piece is a wise addition, to maintain the delicate working tips of the tool. The general use is simple: snap the tool over the stanchion, slide the tool down over the stanchion carefully, ensuring that the tool tip slides under the seal lip. push down until the tool stops* against the seal face, rotate fully around the seal, and withdraw the tool upwards. *The instructions are vague about this (stopping against the seal face), but it is likely that this is the common usage mode. This tool did not work on the first two applications, and had little to show on the scraping tip. Pumping the forks still resulted in an oil ring above the seal, on the stanchions. I looked at the tool tip after the first two attempts, and realised that while the tip edge is raked well back to encourage the movement of dirt upwards and away from the seal, the part of the tool which is in line with the seal face (ie. full-depth penetration) is nearly vertical. This is because the edge of the tool tip curves forwards (ie. in the direction of rotation) at its upper end. I think that the flow of dirt could be slowed at this point, because it is not so well guided, so that the bits of dirt at the bottom of the tool do not make it outside of the seal. I think that the tool could be improved by having the tip edge *more* cut away, above the seal-face edge, such that the tip edge can continue to be raked back to a point outside the seal. This would guide dirt more positively out of the seal. The reason for my thoughts, is that I considered how the tool works, and on the third attempt to clean my seal, I inserted the tool tip to a shallow depth, rather than full insertion. This picked up some dirt, and cured the leak. Some might say 'third time lucky', but I suspect there was more to it than that. This was not easy to use like this, as the tool 'floated' above the seal, rather than being supported on the seal face. Otherwise, this is a great, sturdy and easier to use tool, compared with the cheaper Seal Mate strip cleaner. I still recommend this, as the alternative, of removing and stripping the fork, is too painful!
Hilka Manual Grease Gun Set Pro Craft 84800120
    Jul 16, 2021
Buy it for the tool, not the grease.
No complaints for the money spent (£16).This is very similar to one I bought years ago, but with some differences in quality. The fittings are average in quality, and the feel is a bit rough when doing up the nuts. I recommend a few wraps of PTFE (plumbers') tape to ease things along and ensure a good seal without having to rely on tightening alone. The grip features are barely impressed on the grease reservoir (large cylinder) and grease coupling itself, so clean hands are required to turn these. The grease is poor quality, but then you don't buy the gun for the grease. Do you? In use, the gun worked perfectly well, without any faults. Primed easily, with no leaks at the time.
