Ontario Chimera Beast Knife

The first thing that jumps out is the phosphate finish on the blade rather than the cheap looking painted finish that seems to adorn most of the so called tactical knives today. Next is the impressive blade itself, eight inches of real steel not 440 stainless that is suitable for table knives or forks used at the dinner table.
The Chimera also has an excellent synthetic grip with a very heavy pommel at the end. There's not really anything that I don't like about the knife, the weight of the knife is substantial yet the pommel keeps it well balanced. The only pity is that it doesn't come with a leather grip but that goes back to a personal preference kind of thing. Also, there is the synthetic sheath, the design is great and it does what it's supposed to but I like leather.
This is a knife that will be very happy in the field and I would recommend it anyone without reservation because it is a high quality piece.

Awesome Value
1 of 1 found this helpful I had done some research on-line before deciding to purchase the Cold Steel Kobun Tanto knife. All the reviews were good and I decided to go ahead and make the buy. Even so, I was still somewhat skeptical that the knife was as good as all the reviews said it was, yet the price was low so I thought, "why not". Even if I didn't like the knife, I could still pass it on to someone as a Christmas gift.
I want to say that the Kobun turned out be a great surprise and was well worth the purchase price. Quality and finish of the knife is excellent! The grip is one of the best I have ever held and the factory edge on the blade is very good.
The blade is made of stainless steel and took a good edge without much effort. Also the knife is rather light weight which is neither good or bad but would depend on what your purpose for it's use. I would not recommend it as a survival knife to use for cutting down trees with. However, it would be useful as a carry knife for hunting.
About the only thing I have not made up my mind about is the sheath. It's a molded plastic material (I believe it's called Kydex) which fits the knife beautifully and it has a belt clip. I generally prefer a leather sheath but that's personal opinion. The sheath does what it's intended to do and that is to protect the blade and it's owner.
Overall, this knife is one of the great values out there! I do not have any regrets purchasing it and I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
