All JOKING aside - THIS RECORD IS GOLD!
Killing Joke has to be one of the most underrated groups of all time. You never see them on the Billboard charts, but they deliver on each and every record they release. "Night Time" is a shining example of that. This record, while sounding close to 80's on-the-prowl rock (a la Cutting Crew) on the surface, it is still Indie Rock. In fact, this is one of their more conservative records style-wise. Nevertheless, they still shine with songs like "Night Time", "Darkness Before Dawn" and my personal favorite "Love Like Blood". The music might sound poppy for the time it was made but the lyrics are definitely avante-garde. (On the song "Eighties" for example, lead singer Jaz Coleman actually butchers the decade.) Killing Joke were in many ways going against the grain, and their goal was to inspire people with their music. The "Killing Joke" is, according to Jaz, a mirror that proves "what you see in us, you can do, too; that the stage is the audience, and the audience is the stage." In other words, one could say that Killing Joke in some ways was like Nirvana and NIN: totally iconoclastic against trends in the music industry, while being totally passion about music as an open platform. Therefore, here's to Killing Joke for not only making a superb record, but also leading the way for many other bands as well.

A tribute to a true bluesman!
It is still debatable whether Eric Clapton is a guitar god, but man this guy had soul! No matter what band he was in or who he played with, this guy was always at the top of his game. Because of this box, I might even try out some work by Cream and Blind Faith. Those two groups are - in my opinion - the best of the box. If you like rock with an old fashioned blues twang, by all means buy this set. I guarantee that it will be difficult to be dissappointed.

A few hits but nothing much more
Heart's self-titled CD is supposedly where the band really started to shine as an 80's icon. However, their new style is not fully developed on this CD for several reasons. First of all, most of the lyrical content could easily be discarded as 80's hodgepodge because it seems to go over the same storybook romanticism like a broken record. Secondly, there really aren't any guitars standing out on this record heroically. Overall, the only three songs that popped on this record are "If Looks Could Kill", "What About Love", and "These Dreams". The rest of the content sounds as extraneously frivolous as the band looks on the front of the album cover.
