Good, but not good enough under some circumstances
Like most others, I think this is a good radio "for the price". The quotes are the reason I don't give it five stars. It is fussier than some to program. That's minor. The big negative for me is interference from other bands. There are places we need to use handhelds in the vicinity of medium to high powered FM transmitters in other bands. The UV 5RA is highly susceptible to interference from these other transmitters ... much more so than models from the major manufacturers like Yaesu and Kenwood, and therefore not usable in these areas. So, while this is a good radio for the price, you do get what you pay for. And if you use your radio in a high interference zone, you need to pay more for circuitry more selective than this.
