Brilliant Sound. Lousy connectivity.
The sound from the HK onyx studio 5 is exceptional for a bluetooth speaker. The bass is very tight and not as overpowering as earlier versions hence a much better sound overall (for my ears). The mids and highs are excellent and crisp. I purchased this to replace my previous HK onyx (which is still good ) and my Sony SRS XB 41 which is very boomy and muddy in overall tone.
The look and feel of the unit is very premium with high quality construction all round.
The biggest drawback with this speaker is the bluetooth auto disconnects every 10 minutes. It turns the system off instead of standby if your tablet or phone goes into sleep or screen off mode. It is extremely frustrating to be getting up several times a day and going over to turn it back on just because you stopped listening to music or watching a youtube video for more than a few minutes to make a coffee and have a short chat or break. Previous versions of the HK onyx and my Sony would auto reconnect as soon as the tablet/phone came out of sleep. This happens both on battery and direct power.
My work around is to have another device such as my Amazon echo connected all the time to keep it awake. Which introduces another pitfall. Video voice sync is miles off, at least 1/2 second, if you have the second device connected....ie Amazon echo.....Doh! So I have to disconnect the echo to watch youtube or video and reconnect when finished to keep awake. Its not a problem if listening to radio or music. Its probably a software or firmware issue but I wouldn't hold my breath on an update/fix. I was going to return it but the sound is just too good vs the inconvenience of auto disconnects.
If you are purchasing more for music or radio this is a great purchase. If youtube and short video viewing is more your use scenario you might be left a bit frustrated.

Sony TV fails to disappoint. As new product.
Sony seconds once again fails to disappoint. This is an excellent TV and for all intents ans purposes I would have thought this was a brand new product. The only reason it may have been a second was minor box tears and missing any paperwork or instructions which were all readily available on the net. The product itself has a brilliant picture and with Google TV as the operating system blows Samsung and LG out of the water . I would not hesitate to purchase from Sony seconds again and highly recommend purchasing through this channel.
