    About

My on-line hobby is searching for good buys on US Mint proof sets (mainly silver proofs, but some of the clad sets as well), and assembling high quality proof set runs. I always ship free, and always start my run auctions at just above my cost.

1995 U.S. MINT SILVER PROOF SET (BLACK BOX) E201
    Jun 24, 2017
1995 Key Date Silver Proof Set
The US Mint stopped issuing our traditional 90% Silver dimes/quarters/halves/dollars by 1965, and except for a few special scattered offerings of Commemorative Dollars and a couple smaller denomination coins, almost 30 years went by before they once again started to mint the traditional style 90% silver collector sets (in proof) ... the very collectible 1992-1998S Black Sleeve Silver Proof series. Of those seven years, the 1995S is the hardest to acquire at anything approaching the pricing of the other sets ... typically the 95S will sell at about twice the price of others in the series ... and as time goes by and more people collect them, they won't be any easier to pick up. All coins are of the same design over those seven years, so it isn't the case that the 95S coins are any better looking than the others ... just more rare and valuable.

RYOBI 18 V 18 VOLT DUAL CHEMISTRY LITHIUM NICAD 30 MIN BATTERY CHARGER P117
    Feb 08, 2017
Dual Chemistry Ryobi 18V Charger can put life back into NICADs you thought were dead
I've read others state that they were able to get charges back into old Ryobi NiCad packs that had been seemingly dead for years on their old NiCad chargers ... well my dual chemistry charger arrived today and it did put usable charges into one of my two formerly "dead" NiCADs. I bought it to charge my new Lithium batteries, but it is a big plus that I might have a useful "second life" from my earlier NiCADs, bought many many years ago. Quite pleased. Be sure to understand that "30" minutes is not what it takes to charge all batteries. It will take a lot longer to charge a 4AHr Lithium Ion than a 2.5AHr Lithium Ion ... smaller capacity batteries "fill-up" quicker. Still a great value when bought for well under $30.

    1999 U.S. Proof Set (Silver)

1999 Silver Proof Sets ... The key date of the modern silver proof series
Decades ago, the last of the traditional US Mint 90% Silver Proof yearly sets was released in 1964. It wasn't until 1992 that the Mint once again met collector demand by releasing the single lens 1992-1998 Black Box Silver Proof sets. These went over well, and in 1999 the Mint began the ambitious task of releasing the ten year sequence of 1999-2008 in which each year featured 90% silver dimes and halves ... and five quarters instead of just one ... the five quarters representing sequentially the order in which the States they individually feature joined the United States (plus penny and nickel for each year, and starting in 2000 the SAC dollar coin, and starting in 2007 the added four sequential Presidential dollar coins). 1999 being the first year, was not minted in as high a quantity as some of the later years ... and while a few years into the sequence the Mint began offering the public the chance to buy just the set of five silver quarters, in those first few years the only way to get them was by buying the complete Red Box set for that year. You will see lots of collections of just the 50 State silver quarters, and where-ever you see one, you know that a 1999 Red Box Silver Proof set was dismantled ... given the current great popularity of the series, there were too few of the 1999 sets originally put into circulation, and many of them have been broken up to make quarter albums, jewelry, and so forth. There are two different versions of packaging for the 1999 Red Box Silver Proof Set! The vast majority as you look at the front of the box have an operable right-hand flap, while the left-hand flap is glued shut ... all later years of Red Boxes are built that way. The earliest releases of the 1999 had a slightly different box, in which both end flaps are operable. Probably about 1 in 12 sets at any one time for sale on EBay are of the rare double flap variety, but generally Sellers don't realize that they have a dual operable flap box, or perhaps don't realize that it is rare, and thus don't advertise the fact. Fortunately there are some small differences in the artwork between the two types, so even if you don't see a good enough picture of the left flap to tell if it is glued or operable, you can learn what to look for and typically buy the rare variety for the same price as the more common version. The set has roughly 1.33 Troy ounces of silver between the five quarters plus dime plus half, so there is always that underlying precious metal value ... and the coins are beautiful. However, because of the overall rarity, you'll find the sets sell at several times their silver value. Most all of the remaining 2000-2008 sets in the series can be had if you are a patient bidder for a relatively small markup over their silver content, making them a great investment if you want to hold silver and enjoy the beauty of the coins too. Investing in this one key date set allows you to assemble the entire 50-state run. I'm a believer in the long term value of the 1999 Red Box Silver proof set, and own several of the double flap variety. Good luck to you in your auctions.
