New Simplicity 2250 Sewing Pattern Misses Jacket Tie Dress Mini Cynthia Rowley

Versatile Dress Pattern for Moderately Experienced Sewers

I have not made the jacket, and so this review only refers to the dress pattern. I bought the pattern in stores a few years ago, and made a cotton floral dress and a black dress of finer fabric. I have worn both extensively and received many compliments. Depending on fabric, the pattern is a good multi-purpose one - dress up or down. The fine work over the bodice shows up best on solid fabrics. I love this pattern so much that I recently bought one on eBay (I believe it is now retired by Simplicity) because I have gone up two sizes and wanted to make new dresses that are not quite so snug. The pattern is for a fitted dress, but I found the patterns to be true to size (if you are not familiar with sewing, pattern sizing is not the same as store sizing). The directions are easy to follow, but I would recommend it only to those who already have some sewing under their belt. The bodice involves several pieces, which may be daunting to new sewers. The skirt has pockets in the side, a characteristic I find to be delightful. I have also used the skirt part of this pattern to make several skirts as well, leaving off the bodice and stitching a band around the waist. In short, I find this pattern to be of great value. The directions are clear, the pattern is well-designed and true to size, and, depending on pattern pieces used and fabric employed, a variety of dresses and skirts suitable for many occasions may be constructed.
