Far Better Than Expected!
I was a bit skeptical buying what I suspected was a "knockoff" from the "real thing". Boy, was I surprised when I got this and it worked perfectly. I actually can not tell that this is not an actual OEM product. It fit into my machine perfectly and printed very clearly and smoothly. The best part about this particular purchase was that I decided to buy two instead of one. I saved on shipping and the cost of each item by buying two.
I highly recommend you purchase this product. It seems to function superbly for me and I'm certain I'll buy more of them in the future. This item was substantially less than the cost of an OEM version. Again, highly recommended, and buy more than one! You'll be glad you did!

Hard to put together... But it works great!
1 of 2 found this helpful I only gave this product four stars because it was a little "clunky" to put together. Getting the elements attached was almost like fighting a wild tiger for a few minutes. I had to manipulate the antenna elements (the curved sections) to get them to go over the screws so I could secure them. I noticed one side of the curved element is a bit longer than the other but it didn't seem to matter which way you attached them. Once the elements were seated down on the screws, it all seemed to fit together nicely and the screws and nuts went on very easy.
I did not like that they used black plastic on this antenna to secure the ends of the elements. Black plastic in the sun will certainly be a problem down the road, but I wonder if the elements will be okay since they don't seem to be too flimsy--meaning even if that black bracket that holds the outer edge of the element gets damaged, the element will still support itself (and let's hope no fat birds sit on the elements). Time may tell.
There is also that issue with the coax connector having a small collar around it. It's not really a big deal. If you have a pair of needle-nose pliers, you can easily & safely attach the coax, then slide the rubber boot over it. As for me, I'll do something more than just that boot, but I've put many antennas on towers over the years! I also liked the U-bolt assembly. It seemed quite ample to hold this antenna on a mast or tower.
After I got it assembled, I connected it to my tuner with about five feet of coax. It pulled in every local station solidly and even a few low-power translators that are usually pretty "iffy". I'm looking forward to mounting this thing on the top of my TV antenna mast. I'm guessing everything will come in nice and clear!
Overall, I'd give this antenna a thumbs up. If you need a decent antenna to pull in everything locally, and the FM towers in your area are like they are here (surrounding you from every direction), then I'd say this antenna would probably be a high score for you!

This Antenna Just... WORKS!
I bought this antenna for use on a small base station. After it arrived, I had it put together in about ten minutes. Even if you're marginal at reading instructions, you won't have any trouble tuning or putting this antenna together.
I found the "cutting" chart very easy to understand. You don't have to actually "cut" anything on the antenna. Tuning it requires sliding the actual radiating element out of the white protective case, loosening a set screw, and sliding one rod into another to the specified length for your frequency. You will need a tape measure, but who doesn't have one of those?
The hardware is almost self explanatory. The two pipe-mounts slide onto the bottom mounting pipe (the silver part of the antenna) and you're ready to put it on the mast. The SO-239 connector is safely hidden away from direct weather, but you might want to seal it just in case. I wish there had been some type of rubber plug at the bottom end to help keep weather or insects out, but I managed to come up with something on my own.
After I got the antenna in the air and on the air, I noticed a considerable difference in how far my base (mobile on a power supply) could talk AND listen. What used to be a couple of miles turned into several miles and my base can hear me loud and clear. I'm guessing the higher you have this little gem, the better it will work!
I'm totally satisfied with the Tram 1487 and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another.
One last note, I put my antenna up two days before Hurricane Isaias rolled through eastern Virginia (where I am) and my antenna still works perfectly! Again, I'm super satisfied!
The price as compared to performance is absolutely great. I highly recommend you give this one a try!
