LaserLyte Laser Trainer Target TBL-1 Laser Training Target New
    Sep 28, 2016
    An overpriced toy
I originally purchased this product to maintain skill and address the issue of not being able to attend the range as frequently as I used to, due to increased price and scarcity of factory ammunition. However it turned out to be nothing but an exercise in frustration. The main problems with the target are. 1 The display, reset and main target area do not reliably detect hits. I tried in a room during daylight with the curtains drawn & open, at night under in a room lit by non fluorescent tubes & with the target placed in an unlit room and could never get reliable hit detection the target would work fine in one condition only to fail when attempted again in the same conditions. 2 The target after being turned on needs to be activated by hitting the reset circle twice before you it will record hits, as there is no status light you end up presenting from the holster firing a series of shots, hitting the display circle to check your accuracy only to be met with a blank target. The combination of the problems ultimately ends in frustration and a negative training experience, as the target not registering hits and the doubt it causes leads you to focus your attention on the target (in an attempt to determine where your shot strikes), when it needs to be on your sights. In the end I came to the conclusion that the TBL-1 was nothing but an overpriced toy, and returned to using the Laserlyte training cartridge & a reduced scale cardboard target in conjunction with my Pocket Pro. This is a shame as it was hoped that it may have offered a similar capability to the Beamhit targets but from a company that is much easier to access and deal with. This review of the Laserlyte target doesn't apply to all of Laserlyte's products, as I found their training cartridges to be of a reasonable quality, reasonably priced, conveniently come with batteries and useful addition to dry fire practice.
