Martin quality at a good price
These were my first Martin flurocarbon strings, and it took me a while to get used to them. I've had them on now for about two weeks, and have come to enjoy their sound and playability. They are a bit harder on my fingertips than my usual, favorite, brand (I wanted to try Martins), but are by no means hard to play. Their sound is clear and clean although the 'A' string lacks just a touch of body to my ear (Full disclosure: I'm really touchy about 'A' strings in general). Like other strings I've installed on my ukuleles they stretched when new and took about a week of daily playing before really managing to hold tune. Overall I like the strings, and for under $10 think they are a good bargain. I'll use them again in the future, and have already ordered a "back-up" set to have on hand. I have four ukuleles, and a set of Martin strings will likely be installed on one of them. Martin is known for quality, and these strings uphold that reputation. They're worth a try.

Kala bamboo concert a great ukulele for the money
1 of 1 found this helpful I am a relative newcomer to ukuleles, playing for about two years. The Kala bamboo concert is my third uke, and my first solid instrument (I'm not getting into the 'is bamboo wood or not') debate. All I know is that it is a solid bamboo top, back and sides. In fact just about all of the instrument that calls for wood is bamboo, with a few exceptions. I found samples online of the bamboo concert, and thought it had a very interesting sound. Shortly afterwards I found one in a local store. I took it off the display rack, found it to be in tune, and tried it out. Needless to say I was very impressed.
The overall quality of the build is outstanding. Clean and neat. The satin finish shows off the look of the bamboo, which is actually very nice. Visually the blondness of the ukulele is nicely offset by some black, like the tuning pegs, etc, Small but tasty touches.
The action is impressive. Mine has the standard factory set-up, and it plays very well. Barre chords are a breeze with this uke. The sound leans towards being bright, and very defined and clear. Intonation, to my ear, is quite good. All-in-all it has become my favorite ukulele to play.
As for value I have seen several online reviews of this uke that have raved about its price. Some compare it to ukuleles that cost around $300 or so. I have to agree. It may be that because bamboo is fast growing and less expensive to grow and harvest than mahogany, koa, mango and other well established woods that cause this ukulele to be so affordable, but why not take advantage of the price while you can? Mine was around $135 in a local store, and I've seen them for less online. Regardless, this ukulele is a stone cold bargain.
I'd recommend this ukulele to anyone who enjoys a bright defined and pleasing sound, and who doesn't mind getting that uke at an bargain level price. Uke on!
