Kimi Ga Suki
My rating of "excellent" is relative the general offerings by all artists. This album is "good" as compared to the body of Matthew Sweet's material.
Fun, rocking guitar, very heartfelt. Somewhat retro (C. 1970). I have had this for a couple of months, now. I am listening through as I write this, so as per usual, I will probably end up listening to this for the rest of the day/week.
Kimi Ga Suki is a particular example of the strong feelings drawn (out/on) by Mr. Sweet. Sadness, anger, loss, & sweet love expression.
My favorite on this is "The Ocean In-Between". So sweet. His voice is fantastic, Beatlesque (sp?) with harmonies and range. I like to sing. I do wish the lyrics were in the case.
"I love You" is anger/loss/hope. Way cool.
"Tonight we ride" is the energy of the first warm night in April mixed with hardness: the Magnificent Seven (movie).
Other good stuff, too. This album doesn't feel as progressive as his other material.
I would strongly recommend Kimi Ga Suki along with any other of Matthew Sweet's offerings.
