An introductory sample, and only a sample...
What can I say that has not already been said? This purchase was actually a repeat purchase. I already had the Revised Core Set, but I wanted to pick up another copy for purposes of acquiring more player cards, a new copy of the chaos tokens (mine are showing a lot of wear already after 3 months of semi-regular use), and another copy of the encounter sets (to keep them in the boxes of the other campaigns I have).
As for this particular item, the short of it is this: if you get the original core set (i.e. not the Revised Core Set) you need 2 copies of this product to get most of the player cards you get in the Revised Core Set. Also, the three scenarios in the box do a decent job of demonstrating the game, with the first scenario being a nice tutorial. But sadly, these three scenarios are only a taste. To truly judge whether this game is for you you have to also acquire at least 1 Campaign expansion and 1 Investigator expansion (the common recommendation is the Dunwich Legacy cycle, but you would not go wrong with substituting the Path to Carcosa campaign expansion for the Dunwich Legacy expansion, keeping the Dunwich Legacy investigator expansion).
But, in terms of this particular product, it is okay for what it is. Not the best introduction, but not the worst (i.e. not totally useless either).
I should disclose I originally played true solo. If you are doing two-handed solo or playing with multiple people, you definitely would want 2 copies just for decent deck-building options.
Lastly, for more resources to research this product I recommend going to Board Game Geek and reading the forums there that are listed under this game's dedicated page.
