Ranger RCI 2970N4 AM FM SSB CW 10 & 12 Meter Radio 400W PEP **Tuned & Aligned**

Don't waste your money!

I got 4 months out of mine before the radio literally caught fire! Mine did 575 watts peak on SSB, but again, only lived 4 months. I'm not going to blame RCI, but I was running a 102" stainless antenna with a 1.15 SWR, so it wasn't the antenna's fault. I had a radio technician look at it (a real one who works on radios professionally for a living) and he told me the issue occurred on the input side of the RF deck. Needless to say, it took the whole amp with it. Radio still works barefoot and does 45 watts peak on SSB, 15 watts peak on AM. It turned out to be a costly disappointment. Positives: Crazy power, excellent (but noisy) receive. Overall, I bought it as a convenient all-in-one package, and when it did work, it was great. If you are looking for a "big radio," do yourself a favor and and buy a "small radio" and an amp. Much better value!

USELESS AS A REPLACEMENT FOR ELECTRO-MECHANICAL RELAYS!

Specs are really lacking on this. Once you do find a wiring diagram or bench test it, you find that this can ONLY be fired by the negative terminal which makes it USELESS for any system you wish to fire from a positive source (like firing a light bar tapping your high beam). This has proprietary wiring and WILL NOT REPLACE A STANDARD RELAY!
