Seiko SKX009 Automatic Blue Red Dial Rubber Strap 200m Scuba Diver Men's Watch
Dec 19, 2017
An iconic diver. Outstanding value in a reliable, very good looking watch
I started diving in the early 60's when I was 9. I lived in Miami Beach and the family travelled to the Bahamas a lot. I received a used Tudor Sub when I was 13 and was hooked. I was fortunate to be able to make a living working as a diver, and I purchased a number of tool watches along the way. Some took everything I and the job could dish out, and some couldn't. The Tudor is still running perfectly, as are my Rolexes and Omegas. All have become icons in their own right, but were considered simple tool watches in their day. They were relatively expensive, but they lasted, looked great and represented real value. You could trust them with your life.
I bought a 009 back in 2006 as a first watch for my youngest. It was priced well under $100 at the time and I was not expecting the level of quality and attractive design the watch displayed. He loved the watch and still owns it to this day, even though as a successful actor and musician he is able to buy "grail" watches costing 50x as much or more. It's just a great watch.
I consider the Seiko SKX009 (and the 007) to be contemporary examples of the tool watch design/build ethic set by Rolex & Omega & others in the 50's and 60's. They are very affordable and a great value. Built around a solid stainless steel case, the watch runs on the iconic, rugged, durable and reliable 7S26 automatic movement. The SKX009 is rated to 200m, which is extraordinary for a watch costing less than $200. I don't care for the Seiko bracelets and opt for the rubber strap, which is well made and very comfortable. There are many choices in quality aftermarket high quality oyster-style bracelets if you want to dress up the watch, and they really look great. Also, NATO style straps are a great look. Plus there's a thriving aftermarket in parts and specialists who can mod your SKX009 or 007 however you want.
Will they ever appreciate like the Rolexes, Tudors, Omegas, etc., of the 60's, 70's & 80's? I doubt it, but you never know. I'm sure with a little service here and there they will still be running in 50 years. With the way vintage tool watches have appreciated, they have become too valuable for me to wear on a daily basis, and I find myself often grabbing one of my Seikos. Watches like the SKX009 are great starter and beater watches, and will give the wearer lasting pleasure and reliable service for decades.

Mohu MH-110716 Mini Thin Flat HDTV Antenna for Home or RV - Reversible

Great performing antenna
Cut the cable several years ago and didn't miss it with the exception of events like the Super Bowl. Thought about getting the more expensive model but decided to gamble the $16 on this unit and I'm happy I did.
The unit came looking a little less than "new" due to the loose packaging. However, there were no blemishes on the antenna and set up was a snap, just screwing in the coax cable into the "antenna in" position on the back of my 9-year old Samsung flat screen. To start, I placed the antenna behind the TV on the TV base. It worked brilliantly. I then placed it loosely on the window sill and it worked just as well.
I had done the broadcast analysis in TV Fool for my location (San Fernando Valley, LA) which showed me to be around 23 miles from most of the broadcast antennas on average, so I thought I might have to go to a more sensitive, or even amplified setup. But this little antenna pulls in everything that the antenna analyzer TV Fool showed as being even marginally available for my location
Absolutely worth the money. If you're within the 25 mile range of antennas, this unit should work for you. Every channel looks great and HD broadcasts are gorgeous.
