Easy access

Beautiful knocker with a foible!
Saw this snail knocker and thought it'd make a change to the old fashioned one we had and not the same as the plethora of bees appearing on doors around. Good price considering it's individuality, reasonable chrome finish (time will tell till it needs refinishing, but I'm thinking a few years yet). Says it's brass underneath, so shouldn't rust. Fitting was easy, though would have benefited from dimension for hole positions and stud position, maybe a paper template as an idea? Reason is, if you're 5 mm out overall, or don't drill quite horizontally, the stud does quite catch the knocker correctly for example. Lastly and most importantly (and commented on by someone else I'd noticed, so was way to it), the through door fixing studs are plastic, NOT SSteel nor even mild steel studding. I couldn't get the plastic studding to 'catch' into the thread at all and gave up. Fortunately, I've a good old fashioned hardware shop not 250metres away and so for sub £1.50 I had 1m of appropriate diameter steel studding, washers and bolts.....and of course used little more than 150mm of it. Hinge of base and snail could be a closer/tighter fit to have a little less wobble, BUT THAT SAID IT'S NOT A MASS PRODUCED ITEM. This is a small business, small volume, individual special item of beauty and individuality. It is beautiful and weighty, not like the run of the mill every day door knockers, but very individual. Would I buy another one? YES! Though I'd have the 'leftover spare', better quality studding to fit it ready. Snail 🐌👌😊
