Not as helpful as I had hoped
I am the coach of a forensics team in Kansas. One of our events is Impromptu Speaking, in which a student draws a topic and has five minutes to prepare a short speech about the topic. Commonly the topic is a person. I ordered this book as a reference for us to use in this event, figuring, for example, if a student draws "Hilary Clinton," and we look up her "favorite words" from this book, it might make a nice introduction to the speech. Well, Hilary Clinton's favorite word is "love." That's what this book is. It is literally favorite words -- not phrases or sentences. I'm not sure what a person could really use this book for. I think it's just kind of silly. Some of the people pick words just because they like the sound of them. It's not deep at all. It might be good as a coffee-table book. I can see the benefit of flipping through it once just for fun, but that's the only use I can think of for this book.

Lovely children's book
1 of 1 found this helpful This beautiful little book is short and it is in board book format, so it can be used by a very small child, but the message is for all ages. The puppets and their maker have a very similar relationship to that which we humans share with God. This story shows us that if we care more about what our maker thinks of us than what other people think of us, the "stickers" we get from them won't stick to us. We need to visit our maker often to be reminded how much he loves us. It's a lovely, timeless story that's sure to become a bedtime classic.

One of my all-time favorite love stories
I am a teacher, and I have heard of the Moghul prince who married a Hindi princess to unite India in the 17th Century. This movie is a retelling of that story -- perhaps not totally factual -- in a VERY entertaining way.
This is a Bollywood movie, also knows as a Hindi language film, so it is spoken in Hindi with English subtitles. This is something I don't mind, especially since they don't tend to speak too quickly in this movie, so I didn't find it hard to keep up. There's plenty of time to look around at the absolutely spectacular cinematography. Everything is so gorgeous: the people, the architecture, the countryside. It's almost like going on a vacation to 17th Century India.
The storyline, too, is simply gripping. The Moghul prince has arranged his marriage to the Hindi princess, but she is not in favor of the match, and on the wedding night she is not freely giving of herself to him. He knows he has the right to force himself on her, but instead, he decides to win her heart and take her only when she is ready. This seems impossible at first, but with time, the two fall in love, despite the obstacles of religion, an unsupportive family, and culture.
I'm speaking from a woman's perspective, and that was the part of the story that I loved. I do think there is also plenty a man would find to enjoy in this film, also. There are sword fights, political intrigue, and warfare also sprinkled in throughout this love story. The Moghul prince has to focus on his day job, too, and not just on his lady love.
If you like foreign films, I think you'll love this one. If you've never tried a Bollywood movie before, this should be your first. It's entertaining from beginning to end. I watched this several times on Netflix, but when I noticed it was no longer available, I had to buy it.
