Review: The Martian, a novel
The story is about how a stranded astronaut, who is a botanist and an engineer, keeps himself alive in a very harsh environment, that of Mars. Each problem is analyzed and implemented. Plenty of technicalities float through the story but are just part of the narrative. A great read. I read the book and then saw the movie which left out several crisis situations and also changed a few. But it was in 3D so was fun. But the book is, to me, such a good story that I decided to buy it. The only criticism I can offer is that the author presents all measurements in metric, which I fully understand, but having grown up in the United States prefer things in inches, feet, miles, etc. Saying something is X number of kilometers away doesn't have the same ring to me as saying it is X miles distant. Still, "The Martian" is, in my opinion, an outstanding read. You won't want to put it down.

Older Rummikub version review.
Rummikub is a fun game and this older version, in my opinion, has better tiles than the newer version. The newer version also has several new joker versions and clutters up the game.

The Flight of the Phoenix
The 1965 movie closely follows the book, which is an outstanding read. The 2004 version with Dennis Quaid does not. It, more or less, is a different story. The 1965 James Stewart version, even though it closely follows the Elleston Trevor story, still leaves out parts of the book but no movie can include everything as it would be several hours in length. Regardless, "The Flight of the Phoenix" (1965) is a great story (Elleston Trevor, 1964) which was made into a great movie and both are worth having in any book or DVD collection.
