Life Like F40PH Amtrak: Good Value
0 of 1 found this helpful These locomotives are smooth runners when the tracks and wheels are clean. If you love a F40PH and Amtrak, buy a bunch, as it's not too difficult to scratch new unit numbers on these guys. I have about a half-dozen of these myself, and I wouldn't have bought more than one if they were no good. They are fairly affordable and they look good, too.

Athearn Amtrak cars look good and are easy to work with
These Athearn Amtrak cars are pretty neat. They can be acquired relatively cheap and they're quite authentic examples of early Amtrak equipment, being Phase II painted passenger cars that were manufactured in the pre-Amtrak era. There are quite a few of them, so it's good to collect them and make a consist of decent length. The couplers and wheels are easy to convert to knuckle couplers and metal wheels if they don't already have them. The couplers are truck-mounted, which I prefer on passenger equipment. Overall, I can strongly recommend these guys.

Good kit for downtown modeling scenes
It's a very authentic model that allows for plenty of customization. Like PikeStuff kits, DPM kits do take a bit of sanding and filing to get it together good and they need painting, but it's well worth the work. I surely wouldn't recommend it to a first-time modeler; I consider myself medium-skilled and I find it a challenge to get it together sometimes. This has never stopped me from buying another DPM kit though. They are a very cost-efficient way to make a good-sized downtown area that looks authentic.
