Chinese made recoil starter
2 of 2 found this helpful The aftermarket Briggs recoil starter PN 695058 is vastly inferior to the OEM Briggs PN 591606. This part now sits on my work bench with the other failed and broken recoil starter. The newer, replacement recoil starter appears to be a factory redesign. It has much more strength. and the paws that extend when the rope is pulled have extra groved plastic supports. My recoil that came with the mower was the cheaper one, it failed a couple times, a same replacement also failed. Using the new redesign requires replacing the starter cup (comes included) by removing the big bolt on top of the engine. I used a large pipe wrench to hold the engine while I spun the bolt off with a socket. Much better, but cost $52.+ vs. $25. - $39.+. I bought a Stens for $30.+ thinking it would be better than the rest of the lot. WRONG!
