best bang for the buck router today
i got this as a newegg refurb for $100, which makes this router a very good deal. dual-band, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios provide the range or the speed you need. the 1.4 GHz CPU has the grunt for 1 Gbit router duty. hold off on the mu-mimo routers until broadcom can get their controllers to work better and go for this little beastie.

good quality cables
*always* use good cables. supermicro is a known good supplier. these cables will not disappoint.

bulk up while prices are down
get these while you can. nand prices are at bottom now, so these last gen guys are a real bargain. and no need to skimp on drive size - get the 2tb version so there is lots of space to play with.
