George Melly sings more than just Doom
The earlier years of George Melly singing with Alex Welsh's jazz band and with Mick Mulligan's. Tracks from 1955 to 1959 from a selection of albums and EP's. These are the best years in my opinion and include such classics as Muddy Water, My Canary has Circles under his Eyes, and from the Doom EP Send me to the 'lectric chair, Cemetery Blues, Blue Spirit Blues and Death Letter. 26 music tracks and 1 short recorded interview. The enclosed booklet is interesting with a biography and photos. Well worth any collector of British Trad jazz with the flamboyant Good Time George.

Well worth owning this album
I bought the Cd having owned the UK vinyl for many years. The cd includes 2 bonus tracks the first being 'Preservation' (single released in the US as an intro for the tour of Preservation as a stage show) and the second bonus track a single edit of 'One of the Survivors' (Johnny Thunder rides his motorbike and has nostalgia for 50's rock'n'roll) Other characters are developed such as The Tramp who observes what is happening to the world, the Vicar sings about no more British game than 'Cricket' comparing it to honour, decency and all things that are changing with the Spivs (Mr Flash- out for a profit at any price) The characters are developed in readiness for Preservation Act Two which has a more tightly linked storyline, however for melody tracks such as Sweet Lady Genevieve, Daylight, Cricket and Sitting in the midday sun it makes pleasant listening and bears relevance to the world situation even today, nearly forty years after Ray Davies conceived the project.
