Haven’t finished reading it yet, but this colorful character from a town that held many of my families’ roots shows the resilient spirit I witnessed in my own Scots / Irish grandparents and great-grandparents. They may have come from nothing, but when they died they left only the impression of being “regal”, “true class acts”, but with a down-to-earth, never arrogant warmth. They all had wonderful a sense of humor and you always enjoyed good belly laugh each time you were in their company. They read extensively, danced, played, shared lots of great food and loved adventure. Sam Clemens, Molly Brown, and my Grandparents all had Hannibal in common... and so much more :)
