Great value for a non-amplified UHF antenna
2 of 2 found this helpful This item is a sizeable, sturdy, highly directional outdoor UHF antenna. It has an unusual folded-back dipole element with a printed circuit balun. It produced 100% signals on all local channels and even 88% on channels 11 and 13 but nothing on channel 5. Its performance on a station 45 miles away was no better than a traditional UHF/VHF antenna with normal elements and a normal balun. This antenna could easily be converted to UHF/VHF with some minor additions and I plan to use it for experimentation with scanners and ham radio. An external amplifier would probably produce better quality but the advertising for this product is misleading since there is no amp included. You cannot beat the price for the quality. The performance indoors was miserable as expected.

Horrible SWR match on 2 meters and 440.
I tested these antennas with my new Comet analyzer which is very accurate on my numerous other antennas. These units match very well at about 306 Mhz which is absolutely useless for a ham or for scanner use. On 440, the best SWR is 4:1 with about 35 ohms impedance an attached radial wire. On 146 Mhz, the SWR is over 5 to 1 with 25 ohms impedance shown. My 16 inch Nagoya is also lousy on 440 (4:1 SWR) but a superb match on 2 meters

Only class D amp on EBAY to use DC power.
In spite of the fact that there are no instructions and no English on the board, I like it. I used a multimeter to determine the + and negative power supply poles. I use the subwoofer function and it works fine. For the regular outputs, overdrive will produce distortion. I look forward to adding speakers in parallel to lower impedance and other experiments with this device. I use a regulated power supply although a switching supply was recommended. It doesn't seems to make any difference.
