Rare recordings from inferior sources
The recordings are rare, granted. What isn't good is the sound quality, especially of the Bon Soir recordings. The sound quality of the tracks released on the For the Record boxset is much better, so it's clear nothing near the original masters was used for this release. Disappointing :(.

Everything Caruso Recorded in Fantastic Quality
No better collection of Caruso’s recordings: this is everything* he put to record, including previously unreleased material. The transfers are faithful and noise removal is minimal—which is a good thing if you want as honest a sound as the primitive technology allows. The box set is also a great value; you are getting 12 discs for quite a low price.
As far as Caruso, he’s probably the best tenor of all time. If you’re not already a fan, start and listen in order. You’ll fall in love with the freshness of his youthful sound and his musicality; and as the voice matures over his discography, you’ll only hear more and more to love.
* that survives; the Gioconda diet with Ruffo was never released and the matrix was destroyed, but I don’t know of any other recording that was lost.
