A purpose driven attachment
1 of 1 found this helpful This is a genuine Singer product, designed for it's low shank machines including the Featherweight. So you know it's going to fit, and it's going to work. Every walking foot I've ever used was tricky to attach. You have to line up the hole in the presser bar and the lever onto the needle at the same time. Easier to remove than to attach. It helped to take the needle right out to attach it. The whole idea is to be able to feed the fabric on the top at the same time as the bottom fabric. That means the walking foot jumps up & down and clatters as you sew. It works. Make sure the presser foot screw is tight.
I wanted it for a quilt as you go project, where I'm sewing two layers of fabric, to batting and backing at the same time - unfortunately, it's not designed for piecing, and the foot does not show that necessary 1/4 inch seam line. I resolved this by drawing a line on the top fabric, and guiding that line through the slot in the foot. Works just fine.
