Lionel 259E E-Unit Drum. The right part.
1 of 1 found this helpful This is the right part to replace the E-Unit drum on a prewar Lionel 259E locomotive. Those of you who are familiar with old O-gauge trains know that they operate on alternating current. The motor had two windings- one winding makes the train move forward when electrified; the other winding makes the train run in reverse when electrified. The E-Unit is a switch which alternates betweens the windings and also provides for a neutral (no motion) position. Often this E-Unit drum or the finger contacts go bad and the train is stuck in one position. In my case, the train seemed to exhibit signs of a short circuit. With the help of some info on the internet and a few Youtube videos, I was able to do a repair to the E-Unit of a 259E. Now my grandfather's train works- just as it should. Thank You.
