Refoaming Woofers
The foam surround of my 1982 Boston A70s rotted in 2000. I replaced the woofers complete using factory parts.
One of those failed recently (20 years seems to be the limit) and rather than replace the speaker decided to try this refoam kit, which came recommended in a web forum.
I was not disappointed. Everything is as expected, the instructions are clear (though photos or drawings to go with the instructions would be appreciated) and the materials high quality.
The repair is slow and a little tedious but for $10 a speaker (a new BA woofer is at least $50) it's worth the time and effort. Most of the time is spent scraping old glue and gasket bits off the frame - and waiting for the glue to dry at two different steps (foam to speaker, foam to frame).
Read the instructions, take your time, save $40, and give these great speakers new life!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
