Its nice to have desktop performance from my gaming laptop
2 of 2 found this helpful I love being able to plug all of my gaming accessories and printer into the graphic amps usb 3.0 ports and only having to connect 1 easy cable to my laptop and have desktop performance playing my games and what not.. then when I need to go I unplug the 1 cable and pack my laptop up in its case and game on the go. the internal gtx970m is still plenty good enough for portable gaming. If I'm going to be away from home for ahwhile I bring the graphics amp too, lol.. its not that big and fits into my duffle bag with all my cloths and stuff... so this is definitely worth what it does. I still would much rather have sockets on my 17r3's motherboard though for the cpu and gpu. even though the graphics amp is awesome, it would still be nice to upgrade my gtx970m to a gtx1080 and in a few years even upgrade the cpu.. but for what it is and whats available I do love my graphics amp... I can always upgrade the video card in it, so it will keep my laptop a powerful gaming pc way longer than if alienware didn't offer it..
All in all, I highly recommend it. it does only get pci express x8 though, which is confusing.. the NVidia control panel says its connected to pci express 3.0 x8 but the alienware website says its a X4 connection, so i'm a little confused about that.. so I wouldn't be sticking a titan in it.. lol. I tried my gtx1080 out of my tower computer with the x79 chipset and i7-4930 and the gtx1060 I bought just for the graphics amp gives just as much performance as the 1080 does and i'm thinking its becasuse of the 4 or 8 lanes of pci express when the card needs pci express x 16 for its full potential.. so in my opinion a gtx1060 is the biggest card I would put inside the graphics amplifier....

Nice Bright picture again
So far so good. After replacing the led backlight I realized the backlight setting is missing from the tvs settings, but I don't know if it's related to these back lights or a system update. So if you are replacing the backlight in your xbr55x850c pay attention to if the setting disappears or not after replacing the led strips. Other than that the tv picture is brighter than it's been in about a year or so. So even though the stock led strips were working the picture progressively got dimmer and dimmer the past year until they failed to the point the tv wouldn't work anymore. After replacing the led strips and powered the tv on I noticed the much brighter picture immediately! Replacing them wasn't that bad. Do it on a king size bed, then you can slide the lcd screen off without having to lift it and prolly break it in the process...
