Feature Packed Value

I've owned this receiver for about 6 months now, and I can honestly ay I love it. This was an upgrade from my RX-V1400, and "upgrade" is an understatement to say the least. I'll start by saying that if you can afford it, have a mid to high end remote programmed for this unit. That's not to say you can't use the factory remote, but I have yet to see a "user friendly" stock remote even close to the price range we're talking about. As for features, this is in a class of it's own. Hooking it up took some time, but the rewards were well worth it. My wife and I enjoy having access to over 10K songs which we have stored on the PC on the other end of the house. The "Compressed Music Enhancer" really works. It will do an excellent job of cleaning up mp3's or WMA's which have been heavily compressed. Another great feature is having 2K internet radio stations at the tip of your fingers. We've bookmarked around 125 stations so far and were able to categorize them as well. And if that's not enough, we have Xm radio hooked up to boot! On the video side, it does quite well. The built in scaler does a nice job of cleaning up basic digital cable signals and also up converts any video source to 1080i via HDMI. When we get a 1080p TV and a HD/BlueRay player we'll have no issues passing that signal through this puppy since it supports 1080p pass through on the HDMI front. As far as the GUI goes, it's silky smooth and one of the simplest I've seen around. The on screen menus are easy to navigate through and you can back up instead of exiting and going back to a particular section (geeks will know what I mean). One other thing we found was that using the "Neural Surround" decoder for watching TV is much better than PLII when watching stereo broadcasts. It was designed for XM Radios 5.1/HD channels but can be used on any 2 channel source. The list goes on and on of what my wife and I love about the new baby. But having the MX-850 remote control programmed was the key to unlocking all the goodies it has to offer. 2 enthusiastic thumbs up and if I could give it 6 stars, I would!
