Beyerdynamic M201 TG Classic Dynamic Hypercardioid Microphone
    Nov 17, 2022
Lives up to classic snare mic reputation.
I mixed 35 bands over a three day festival last weekend and put the m201 through its paces on snare. We had a back line drum set but each drummer brought their own snare. I found that I didn’t have any unpleasant sounding snares even before I started to eq. Usually, when using a 57, I will get some that start out needing a lot of work taming certain peaks and ringing. The m201 seemed to be more forgiving and allow me to get straight to fine tuning the sound I wanted rather then fixing ugly problems. I’m guessing this was because the m201 had better rejection of the rest of the kit so I was actually EQing mostly snare sound. I did notice that I had to add a bit more upper mids to bring out the “crack” than with a 57, which makes sense because the 57 has a boost around 3k. I also noticed the m201 needed a bit more gain than a 57 to get it present in the mix. Overall I am excited to have a more neutral, higher fidelity, and controllable tool for snare. I’m looking forward to trying it on other sources like brass, woodwind, accordion and other things that need a little smoothing out of edgy peaks. I feel this tool makes my job easier and my mixes sound better .

    Clean up stage rumble
Excellent for isolating mechanical vibrations coming up the mic stand, especially on resonant club stages. I needed to eq out far less mud from my vocal sources. I will be buying more.
Gator GTSA-MIC30 ATA Molded 30 Microphone Case

    Good quality mic case
It does what it is supposed to do without any annoying quirks that I can see. It’s lighter than my old case and holds more mics. I am quite happy with it so far. The clasps close securely with a very light touch, which makes me worry a little that they may get loose over time and hard use. Time will tell.
