Down Home With Rick’s Mom
Rick Bragg’s writing is just so readable. And the subject matter is completing and makes you want to eat the Southern cooking he describes. Recipes are included.

Making an abandoned house a home.
First-person account of what it takes to rehab an abandoned home in a sketchy neighborhood in a struggling city. Location? Not good when you consider the nearby city incinerator and plethora of empty houses that have been stripped of most everything of worth. But the neighbors, what there are of them, are generous and welcoming. With no real construction credentials and little money, the author sets about to make a seemingly hopeless house inhabitable for the long-term. Determination and grit are still valuable.
