I almost used this pump to fill the transmission fluid on my vehicle a short time ago. The reason I say almost is because I had so many problems with this pump that I was forced to improvise a gravity feed funnel system to complete the transmission fluid fill task.
When I started using the pump the twist-lock open/close spout built into the head of the pump would close with the slightest bump of the fluid cylinder and stop the flow of fluid through the pump head. Understand, that the transmission fluid that was being used is thin (low viscosity) and flows very easily at room temperature, much like a 5w30 or 10w30 motor oil. After pumping about one half quart of fluid and even though I attempted to hold the head of the twist-lock spout open, the internal check valve built into the spout would stay closed and no matter how much pressure I applied to the pump handle, little or no fluid would flow through the spout and into the transmission.
I applied so much pressure to the pump handle trying to get fluid through the valve head, fluid leaked out of the spout (past a round metal/rubber seal) between the cylinder tank body and the screw-on twist-lock spout assembly and past the ring seals built into the pump cylinder, but little or no fluid would flow through the twist-lock valve spout.
There may be a twist-lock indent inside the spout assembly to keep the valve open, but the unit I received failed to stay open. I was working under the vehicle on jack stands and space to apply pressure to the pump handle is very limited at best. Even if you are able to hold the spout open you will lose much leverage with the pump handle extended and will find the task extremely difficult.
Most products have a minor glitch or two and you expect that, but you usually manage to get the device working well enough to complete the task at hand. Not so with this pump. Clearly, the check/open/close valve built into this pump is of a very inferior design and should be replaced.
