How do you make it lay flat? It shows folding squares

I like it a little better than the real cow, but it's been a couple weeks and the folds have not flattened out; should I wet it and hang it? Also the sewn edges show but the real cow does not have sewed edges. The real cow seems to be shaved short hair, this has a little more soft fuzzy feel. It was less cost that the same size real cow. I just wish it would lay flat.
