Improvement over the older Raymarine 4000 auto pilot
1 of 1 found this helpful I used this autopilot previously on a Cal 33-2 which has a displacement around 11,000 lbs. It was a replacement for the older model Raymarine 4000 autopilot that had the old flux gate compass. The new EV-1 sensor core greatly improves course tracking. Less wandering. The CAL would stay rock steady on course. I also had a Garmin Steady Cast heading sensor on the NMEA 2000 backbone, so that heading data was also available, though maybe not needed. I just purchased this same pilot for an Ericson 38, which will be at the limits for this pilot's rating, around 16,000 lbs. Hopefully I'll see similar results on the new boat. Only complaint I hear regarding these autopilots is problems with the wheel drive assembly sometimes having issues. Slipping or such. Could be just an adjustment thing as mine worked very good on the CAL.
