Imagine... The Ten Plagues (Mar 2018)
    Mar 10, 2018
    Let My People Go!
This book is written for a preteen. I felt like my own interpretations of the Ten PLagues was changed, by reading this book. One plague is the oldest child (son) would die from each of the Egyptian families, living in that area, along the Nile. I had always assumed (?) that the children that would die would be babies, but the author describes it another way. I have since adapted my own interpretations. The author jumps right in on the first page, so you are immediately interested and want to keep reading. There was a minor discrepancy, when all of the animals died, but I think it was possibly left in, for dramatic flair. I don't think that maybe a preteen would even notice the discrepancy. I highly recommend. I received a complementary copy from Barbour Publishing. I was not required to submit a review.
*Advanced* The Pink Bonnet: True Colors: Historical...by Liz Tolsma (2019)

    Rockabye Baby....
The Pink Bonnet: True Colors: Historical Stories of American Crime by Liz Tolsma The author got into the details about Georgia Tann, who was the Director of the Tennessee Children's Home Society, in Memphis, from 1924-1950. She has become well known in our modern age, as a ruthless kidnapper and sold to whomever she could get the most money out of and murdering the babies and children that were hard to place. Cecile Dowd is a mother in this novel, who's daughter Millie that has been kidnapped by Tann. Cecile tries several times, to get her daughter back. She eventually does get her precious daughter back, but has several run ins with the law, a phony lawyer that Tann has in her employ and is berated by the Memphis police department. Ms. Tann was known for her high-handedness and ruthless tactics in securing a child and also in finding the highest bidder for each child. In "Pink Bonnet," the author takes us into the relationships of several adopted children. It doesn't explain why or how a poor family was able to adopt two children as a labor force and someone to beat on. Mrs. Dowd is only one of possibly thousands of parents that had been taken by Ms. Tann. Not all of them received their children back or any sign that their child/children had survived. I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating. It was interesting and held my attention. What an animal that G. Tann must have been. I received a complementary copy from Barbour Publishing, with no obligation to review. The Pink Bonnet: True Colors: Historical Stories of American Crime by Liz Tolsma
The Sugarcreek Surprise PAPERBACK 2022 by Wanda E. Brunstetter

A unique view of daily Amish living
5 Stars, A unique view of daily Amish living THE SUGARCREEK SURPRISE (CREEKTOWN DISCOVERIES SERIES, VOLUME 2) by Wanda E. Brunstetter This delightful inspirational novel has a little bit of everything in it. There is PTSD-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Romance, being thwarted at love, mentoring, children, family, pets, daily living in the Amish way of life, loss of parents and grandparents, matchmaking, health issues, church, singing, and prayer. All of which come together in the best way to make a great novel. The story revolves around Lisa Miller and Paul Herchberger as the main characters, but just as important are the behind-the-scenes mentors Orley and Lois Troyer, owners of the Memory Keepers Antique Store. They are central to the storyline in both books in this series. Orley likes to visit with his customers, mentoring anyone who needs help that he can give. Lois has a newspaper column called Dear Caroline, where she gives anonymous advice to people who write to her column. They both feel led to mentor and help out anyone who needs it. The author knows how to tug at your heartstrings to make you feel as though you are inside of her stories, living in the events with her characters. I highly recommend this novel. With much gratitude, I received a complimentary copy of #thesugarcreeksuprise from the author and #barbourpublishinginc I was under no obligation to post a review. #heartstrings #contemporaryromance #amishfiction #coverlove #favoritebooks #creektowndiscoveriesseries #inspirational #indiana #ohio #wandaEbrunstetter #antiques
