The Platinum Standard
It's strange, but even in the day of smart phones we still have a place for the stand alone calculator. Clients still can appreciate seeing financial equations being banged out on a calculator.
If you're in finance, the 12C is the gold standard. Whether you are figuring up yield to maturity, or time value of money this calculator does it flawlessly. Remembering everything can be difficult so one of the most best things HP did was put formulas on the back for quick reference.
The Platinum gives you a few more bells and whistles but at its core it is the HP 12C. The most notable being the ability to use Reverse Polish Notation OR Algebraic. This makes it easier to get started or for someone else to borrow the calculator.

Historical piece on the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry
This is a great piece of scholarly work on the first ~175yrs of the Scottish Rite SJ.
