nothing better for twice the cost
I've had a pair since they first came out and I am looking for another set. I love them. Even my wife argues that they are really hers, yeah, right.

great little radio, multipurpose as much as any
The only thing it is missing is decent DSP noise reduction. I think you can still add it, but being familiar with that board from other implementations, it is lacking so I wouldn't bother. Also, being that the radio is used by many in the mountains and hiking which are low noise environments anyway, I would just pass and live with the limitation. The battery last long on receive but of course transmit will kill it quickly. As far as power supplies, I use an old IBM 16V wall-wart type and put a couple of diodes on input to drop the 16V down to something close to 13.8V. I traveled with mine extensively and have had no issues since purchase maybe 10yrs or so ago, as much as 15yrs. Jerry
