Costly compared to the knock-offs but works perfectly
Did the trick. I bought a used lawn tractor from a repair shop with no warranty. The thing would backfire almost every time I shut it down. First I noticed the wire was cut to the solenoid and then discovered that the original solenoid had the plunger plug cut off so that gas would still pass. Once I installed the new one everything was fine.
I hated to pay such a high price for a genuine B&S solenoid especially since the copies are so cheap but reading the reviews of them and watching some related YouTube videos on the subject convinced me to pay the man for the real thing.
BTW, my original was the 'long' version with the wire connection on the bottom and I was worried about buying this one with the wires attaching to the side as specified. Turned out fine as mentioned.
Also of note - the connection is polarized but you can plug it in either way. If you plug it in reversed. it will not work.
