Atwood GCH6A-10E RV Water Heater Gas Electric with Heat Exchanger w/ *White Door
Mar 29, 2016
I can't give high ratings yet because it's not operational. That's what counts!
We attempted to install it a fews day ago but were unable to complete the project. Step #1 was to hook up and test the propane line. Perfect! It passed the bubble test. Step #2 was to hook up the water lines and test them. Uh oh! The new fitting I bought for the cold water intake was leaking. Stop. Turned water intake hose off. Mopped up water. Removed unit. Installed a brass fitting that was in the old tank (seemed to contain a backflow protector) along with the old threaded plastic elbow connector. Reinstalled unit. Turned on water. Stop. Still leaking. Took apart threaded fitting and wrapped it with teflon tape. Turned on water. Still leaked although only dripping. Turned off water again. What could it be? The water pressure (where we did this work) seemed very strong but my intake hose had a pressure reducing valve. Since we had no time left to seek new parts we had to stop work. I have arranged for our RV repair shop to take over but they can't do it for another two weeks. Therefore I cannot review how well the water heater works by propane or electric. Stay tuned. PS. Except for the 4" gash from freezing water (I guess) the new unit looked exactly like the old unit which was installed by Itasca before I bought new my 2009 Navion. Did I mention that working on the plumbing is from inside the RV thru a 6" x 8" hole made for a sound speaker. You can't see and feel at the same time. I don't believe RV manufacturers plan for how things can be replaced.
