In Carrie's Footprints: The Long Walk of Warren Dorsey - Paperback - GOOD
    Feb 18, 2025
Memories of a small town in Maryland as told by Carrie’s son.
The book is about the life of Mr Dorsey and his family especially his mother Carrie, as told to the author. I live in Sykesville where the story takes place. It is of historical interest to me. I can go half maile from my home and see the Sykesville he recalls. Most of the buildings have new purposes now but are still here. Some like the colored school are historical landmarks. I have purchased copies for relatives that have visited me and loved our town and wanted to learn more. This copy I purchased for my retirement community’s library display of books suggested for Black History month. She informed me that our other copy was out but never returned. Living in CA, I didn’t observe the same separation of races as described by Mr Dorsey. I learned that all of the kids swam and played together in the river, but knew not to acknowledge each other when passing in town. He also mentioned that when he’d pay and pick up his mom’s food from grocer, he was given more food than his Mom had given him money for. The same grocer would collect money to help colored families see Dr or get medicine. It is a fascinating history of a darling small Maryland town. People are good and caring throughout our history.

Exactly what I needed to add color to some appliqué/pieced blocks I’m working on.
