They almost got it right
We like the bench now that we have "fixed" it. The slats were only varnished on one side so we bought more varnish and finished the job. The flat piece of metal that was intended to be installed with the included self-drilling screws was not shaped to fit the bench nor did we see any benefit to installing it as the self-drilling screws would be more likely to weaken the thin teak wood slats at the point to which they may break or crack when the bench is sat on combined with the fact that the metal piece was thin, flat and straight and apparently intended to be shaped by the consumer prior to or in conjunction with installing it, it probably would not have stayed in place and may have ripped the screws out when it moved it so we didn't install it. This was a major design flaw. The slats do move a bit when the bench is sat on but they are quite sturdy and two adults can sit on the bench without it breaking. Overall, I think the bench was overpriced for the quality of the product.
