Good and bad
Good product but lighter than I expected. It took 8 weeks to arrive

Lewis and Clark
0 of 2 found this helpful Ambrose is an historian and writes a detailed and well annotated description of the preparations and journey of Lewis and Clark in a most interesting era .It traces Lewis's background from his youth and his long relationship with Jefferson. It gives insight into life in the late 1700's and early1800's and that part is fascinating. The entire book demonstrates the politics of the time, even some of the background that is presently discussed in the Broadway show"Hamilton" and can be closely compared to the Donald Trump phenomenon.
The bad part is that the detailed historical form is annoying and difficult to read. As a researcher, Ambrose closely follows and includes many of the writings of the time for the sake of accuracy but not poetry. it is quite dry. and doesn't flow.
As one who is about to join a cruise of the Snake and Columbia Rivers to trace the route of Lewis and Clark I'm determined to know these details but for the casual reader a more concise tale might be better.
