Garmin Forerunner 235 GPS Running Watch & Activity Tracker Marsala Red
Feb 09, 2016
Excellent watch for the person who want comprehensive info
Before I start let me state that I'm coming from a Fitbit and before that a Samsung gear 2 and that is the breadth of my activity tracking devices previously. Reason I ditched the Samsung (yes I ditched it because the battery life was a joke so I parked it like its hot) and switched to a Fitbit charge hr. The charge he was an awesome device for all of the three months I had it and it a great first step for a beginning runner or just a person who just wants some form of motivation (trust me motivation is very needed when it comes to working out) and the social aspect of Fitbit is awesome, the user interface is simple and easy to understand and goals are easily set and modified. Now to he caveats I had with the Fitbit charge hr. First I went through like two replacements and so did like three members of my family as the devices began failing for all sorts of reasons. First the battery would die randomly, then one had charge that lasted a joking 2 hour, followed by one that just stopped powering on. Luckily for me I was already seeking to replace mine for a true running watch but I really loved the novelty in the wrist based heart rate tracking of the Fitbit so I was looking around for something with gps on board but also wanted that wrist based heart rate and would also like the accelerometer for treadmill runs and step tracking without a footpod (so basically everything from the Fitbit plus gps and running oriented apps). Also, the Fitbit was no looker and I constantly had to make excuses for why it was so mundane and unattractive. Lucky for me the garmin 235 came out November 2015 and o immediately was in love. It seemed to have all I wanted and then some (tho the icing on the cake would have been internal storage for music but Ibdidnt like the tomtom spark). I drooled over it a bit. Read all literature on both it and the fr225 and pulled the teigger on it in January 2016. Let me start by saying it's awesome !!! The display of the forerunner 235 is always on so no more repeated wrist swings like my previous devices just to see the time. The display was easily readable outdoors unlike the Samsung gear 2 and had the looks I could be proud to wear day in and day out unlike the Fitbit. On hat note let me start by saying it is a pleasure to wear the garmin and it's far lighter in weight than it looks. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I held it. Gave myself a little pat on the shoulder as I thought great pick. The band is very comfortable and has enough anchor holes for anyone. The watch offers a wealth of information (overwhelmingly so at times) to include most features of a smart watch such as call answering (tho no mic or speaker on the watch), message preview and a host of other notifications. Pairing is a breeze and it offers more information when it comes on the running stats than I know what to do with right now (vo2 max being one) All in all this device though seemingly pricey for a fitness tracker makes a great purchase for anyone remotely interested in running and wants also the everyday fitness tracking and basic smart watch capability. Caveat: garmin connect seems unpolished but I can see they are actively working on it so i have no worries.
