All households should have one!
It's a great thing to have on hand! I've raised three children. One started having ear infections after turning three years old and ended up having tubes. Another child started with wax problems in high school. It's great to be able to see if there is a reason to call the doctor. The only "complaint" is I wish the ear cone would stay better on the otoscope.
