One of the top three books for California landscapers
If you work with plants in California, you must have this book. While you'll still need the Sunset Western Garden book, this is the perfect companion, surpassing that book in many ways. The water use designations are extremely helpful as are the plant pairing guides. Unlike Sunset, this is largely from Mr. Perry's personal (extensive) experience so it reflects real world knowledge. He even fine tunes the WUCOLS with his own designations. On top of that, it is a beautuful publication. His previous books were comprehensive for their time, but the photos sometimes left something to be desired. This makes up for that in spades (shovels?)

Boards that plaque
Gets the job done. It's pretty loud, but not obnoxious. It is supposed to have a function that tells you if you're using too much pressure, but that's difficult to turn on. I can't really tell how durable it is after a month. My last toothbrush died after 3 years and had a non-replaceable battery. I'm going to be very disappointed if this one is the same.

A Beautiful Publication
1 of 1 found this helpful This is a beautiful book. The art is so wonderfully reproduced and there is so much of it, that it could serve as a coffee table book. For me, it is. It showcases the myriad styles of this relatively new art form from dozens of artists. While it is not a technique manual, there's another one for that, it displays the various artists styles and equipment and their essays explain how they approach drawing on location. I love to pore over the drawings and see how they portrayed one thing or another. My only complaint is that the text is too light, too small and too thin making it very difficult to read. I practically have to use a magnifier or put my face on the page to read it. I know they want to feature the art, but if they're going to put text in, it needs to be readable.
