Nikon D50 - a little gem!
17 of 17 found this helpful I've had my D50 for about 18 months or so. I own quite a few DSLRs, and the D50 appealed on account of its small size. As a 6mp camera it has, of course, been superceded. But, in terms of image quality, it more than holds its own against bigger/better models. It produces very sharp images, and gives nice colour. I often find a little contrast boost helpful, and then the results look punchy and saturated, yet natural and realistic. I've compared my D50 to the Nikon D60, D200, Fuji S5 Pro, Canon 40D, Sony a700, Oly e500 and 510, and reckon it produces results that are every bit as good. The higher mp cameras are perhaps a tad sharper in terms of fine detail, but even on a 8x12 print it can be very hard to tell. The D50 has one feature that I find very useful; an unusually high flash sync speed of 1/500th. Only the D40 offered something similar (though not the D40x), and it is useful for those wanting to use daylight fill-flash for portraits. I recently bought a D60 with a view to selling the D50, but having compared results I'm not so sure I want to part with the older camera - it might be the D60 that ends up being sold! The D60 is nice, but it's only usable with motorised lenses, whereas the D50 works with any AF Nikkor. I find the D50 consistent and reliable in terms of exposure and focus, and have used it in situations (Weddings) where I needed a camera that could produce great results in less than ideal lighting. Battery life is phenomenal too.

My go-to cleaner for plastics!
I find this fluid very useful for cleaning plastic items.
I often use it on CD jewel cases to remove sticky labels, and and even sometimes use it to clean vinyl LPs.
Secondhand CDs with marked/grubby jewel cases can be rejuvenated using this fluid and some Brasso wadding.
However, the fluid should NOT be used on the label side of compact discs themselves, as it will smear the surface varnish.
As a cleaning fluid, I find Tamya 81049 Acrylic Paint X20A thinner gentle but strong and effective!
